On Wednesday night, October 23, 2024, the Platteville Board of Education adopted two situational budgets for the 2024-25 school year following the release of the estimated Wisconsin State Aid on October 15, 2024. One budget will reflect a successful operating referendum question, which will be voted on by district residents on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and the other budget does not have a successful question.
If the majority of voting results say yes to the district’s operating referendum on November 5, the total district property tax levy mill rate will decrease to $7.02 (compared to $7.59 in 2023-24). The total tax levy will be $9,546,541, reflecting a decrease from the 2023-24 total tax levy of $9,583,899.
Alternatively, if the operating referendum is not approved, the total district property tax mill rate will decrease to $7.05 (compared to $7.59 in 2023-24), and the total tax levy will remain at $9,583,899, the same as it was for the 2023-2024 school year.
The Platteville School District, in our continued efforts “To ensure high levels of learning for all in a safe, inclusive learning community; every student, every day,” has deemed an operating referendum necessary due to the state of Wisconsin’s school funding system’s disconnect with rapidly increasing costs due to inflation.
“The Platteville School Board is to be commended for their dedication to funding our local school,” says Platteville School District Superintendent, Jim Boebel. “If our community supports the operating referendum then our students will continue to receive high levels of instruction for years to follow.”
