Today we celebrate Juneteenth in our schools and community! โค๏ธ๐๐

Juneteenth is a holiday, celebrated annually on June 19, that remembers the day in 1865 when word came to enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, that they were free โ two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863. Juneteenth became a national holiday in 2021.

Our 3rd Grade Students have been learning ALL about local government! Recently, they were able to take a trip downtown to Plattevilleโs City Hall where they learned more about the departments of local government, townships, the common good, and taxes!

City Manager Clinton Langreck, Platteville School District Community Resource Officer Josh Stowe, and Communications Specialist Jodie Richards were excited to give the students an opportunity to see Plattevilleโs local government in action!

Our 1st graders have been busy studying all kind of plants in their classroom and recently took a trip to the Rountree Branch Trail to study them in person!

Dan Flesch, a retired Platteville School District teacher and PCA volunteer, was their tour guide and taught them about various plants along the trail and in Katie's Garden.
.
They were joined by Sue Kies, author of Sassy's Vacation, as well as a few of the donors who made it possible for all of the first graders to get a copy of the book!
.
